WHERE: Center for the Arts EvergreenThe Center for the Arts (CAE) presents Love out of Bounds, a St. Valentine’s Day show. St. Valentine’s Day (observed February 14th) began as a celebration of the early Christian Saint, Valentinus, who was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians under the Roman Empire. The day was first associated with romantic love during the High Middle Ages when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In the 18th century, it evolved into a day in which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, candy and sending greeting cards. Featured artworks have been made in (and out) of theme with St. Valentine’s Day. Multiple mediums depict realistic renderings, imaginative interpretations or even abstract artworks of love and relationships. Narrative works that explore all aspects—in love, out of love, current love, past loves—are also on display. The small gallery will have a market of gift items to give your sweetheart for St. Valentine’s Day. Artist Timothy C. Flood juried the show. Flood is a multimedia artist whose work includes surreal stereoscopic photography, interactive community-intervention installations, and concept-based self-expansion using cast iron. His work has been featured in local, national and international exhibitions. Flood was awarded the 2010 Emerging Artist Award by the Flagstaff Photography Center in Arizona. Through his artwork, Flood strives to help bridge the gap between what we believe we know about ourselves and realizing our higher potential as individuals and as a society. Coinciding with the show is a special pre-opening. Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:30-8:00pm, CAE will host an evening Wine and Chocolate Pairing with a special jewelry showcase and show preview. Tickets are $35/person, seating is limited. Call CAE for reservations. Love Out of Bounds runs from January 31 to February 28, 2014. An opening reception will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 from 4-7pm. Center for the Arts Evergreen is open Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturdays 12pm-5pm.

WHERE: Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St., AuroraVintage Theatre presents the Regional Premiere of "The Lyons" By Nicky Silver Directed by Bernie Cardell February 7 - March 9 As Ben Lyons lies dying, his wife of forty years, Rita, flips through decorating magazines, planning a living room make-over. "I know you won’t actually be there to enjoy it, but I’d like to think you’d like it." It's clear that Ben and Rita have been at war for many years, and that Ben's impending demise has brought no relief. When they're joined by their children, Lisa and Curtis, all efforts at a pleasant visit or a sentimental goodbye to the dying patriarch are soon abandoned.
