WHERE: MCA Denver 1485 Delgany St Denver, CO 80202In 1975, artist Senga Nengudi began a series of sculptures, titled R.S.V.P., which evoke the elasticity and durability of the human body. Made of everyday materials such as pantyhose and sand, the works invite viewers not merely to respond but also to engage physically with them. Stretched and twisted, knotted and looped, the works occupy their space in the gallery much as a figure does – by projecting outward and reaching into the space in unexpected ways. This exhibition includes works from the 1970s to the present and will be the first museum presentation to examine these sculptures together and in such depth.

WHERE: MCA Denver 1485 Delgany St Denver, CO 80202For this exhibition, Jorge Méndez Blake created a single work that occupies the entire gallery space. Stretching across the walls is Project for a Park Library (Aerial View Large), a vinyl print exploring how a library might be reconceived as a park. The work evokes imagined landscapes of mountains, lakes, parks, and oceans. Walls of bookcases form the thin white lines dividing the different parts of the park. Brought together and arranged like an unfolded piece of origami paper, these elements of a library help to suggest a lush landscape. The work attempts to jettison the knowledge contained within the library so that it becomes more available and less privileged. The idea of culture acting as an agent of democracy is at the heart of this project. Jorge Méndez Blake was born in 1974 in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he continues to live and work. He has recently been the subject of solo presentations at Meessen De Clercq, Brussels (2013, 2012, 2010); the Museum of Latin American Art, Los Angeles (2010); and the Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City (2008). His work has been featured in group exhibitions such as Panorámica. Paisajes 2013-1969. Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City (2013); Block, Pillar, Slab, Beam, Aspen Museum of Art (2012); and Poule!, The Jumex Collection, Ecatepec, Mexico (2012).
