A Taste of Colorado

Celebrating its 31st year as the state’s largest free-admission outdoor event, A Taste of Colorado draws more than 500,000 visitors annually. Five entertainment stages include national, local, and ethnic music in a variety of genres, children’s performers, and much more. Festivalgoers also can try a variety of culinary delights from more than 50 of Colorado’s favorite food establishments, including a fine dining area and culinary showcase. A fireworks light spectacular will illuminate Civic Center Park on Friday, Aug. 29, and feature synchronized lights on the City and County Building along with choreographed music. Plus, visitors can enjoy the offerings of more than 275 marketplace artisans and vendors, as well as educational programs promoting the diverse cultural and Western heritage of the region. Theatre Or and MACC Present Kindertransport by Diane Samuels to Commemorate 75thAnniversary of Rescue Mission Special Performances Planned to Honor Local Kindertransport Participants and to Commemorate Kristallnacht Theatre Or* and the Mizel Arts and Culture Center (MACC) present Kindertransport by Diane Samuels, opening October 30, 2014, and running through December 7. Special performances to honor local Kindertransport child survivors will be October 22 at 6:30 pm and Nov. 9 (Kristallnacht anniversary)at 2:00 pm. Kindertransport also opens the 2014 Neustadt JAAMM Fest – Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies, and Music Festival at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) October. 22 – November 9. In 1938, in response to violence in Germany against Jews, the British created the Kindertransport to rescue 10,000 children and bring them to safety in Britain. The majority of these children never saw their parents again. In 1992 Samuels , inspired by the effort, wrote Kindertransport, about a woman who, rescued as a child, wants to bury her past. However, her daughter insists on knowing her mother’s story.

MCA Denver is proud to present the first retrospective of the work of Mark Mothersbaugh from the beginning of his career in the early 1970s through the present. Known throughout the world as a founding member of the popular band DEVO, Mothersbaugh has been a prolific artist since before the band’s inception and continues to make art to this day. A creative polymath, Mothersbaugh’s diverse body of work includes drawings, sculptures, photographs, videos, prints and rugs.
