Food Bank of the Rockies is the largest hunger-relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region, serving 33 Colorado counties and all of Wyoming. With food costs rising and need at a 10-year high, one in eight Coloradans—and one in seven children—are experiencing food insecurity.

“We’ve never faced a challenge like this before,” says Erin Pulling, the Food Bank’s CEO. “Even before the government shutdown, Food Bank of the Rockies and our Hunger Relief partners were responding to record-high levels of need. Now, we’re seeing even more people turning to us for help—some of our mobile pantry locations have seen as much as a 40 percent increase in visitors. Families are telling us they’re having to make impossible choices, like buying groceries or paying bills, which is especially heartbreaking.”

To help fill the gap, every $1 donated can provide enough food for three meals through programs across Colorado and Wyoming. Thanks to community and state support, the Food Bank is purchasing additional food for its network of Hunger Relief partners. Even though the government has reopened, the organization is still facing historic levels of need due to 2025 federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Community support remains critical. Food Bank of the Rockies can purchase food at 54 percent below retail—up to 77 percent less for produce.

“We are always in need of volunteers to help us sort, pack and distribute food. However, we can’t stress enough how critical and effective monetary donations are during this time of crisis,” Pulling says. “Monetary donations have the greatest impact on need because food banks buy in bulk—by the truckload—and stretch every dollar.”
