For more than a century, the Junior League of Denver (JLD) has been advancing women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. The League’s current community focus is disrupting the cycle of systemic poverty for women and families in Denver.

Founded in 1918, the JLD is part of a global movement that began in New York City in 1901, when a small group of women recognized that volunteerism could be a powerful vehicle for civic change and personal growth. Today, that movement, led by The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), spans hundreds of communities and has empowered millions of women around the world.
More than a decade ago, the Junior League of Denver sought a new way to deepen its impact in the community. Through thoughtful research and planning, Leaders United in Volunteer Service (L.U.V.S.) was created. On Saturday, September 19, the League will celebrate the program’s 10th annual day of service with the theme, A Decade of Service, A Lifetime of Community Impact.

Each year, League members volunteer at seven to 10 nonprofit partner organizations across the Denver metro area, tackling projects such as painting, landscaping, organizing, assembling care packages, and other hands-on improvements. Grants are also provided by the League to purchase materials. By completing these much-needed projects, trained JLD volunteers allow nonprofit staff to focus their time and resources on advancing their missions. The impact extends far beyond a single day. In 2025 alone, 163 League members contributed 652 volunteer hours to support seven nonprofit partners.
The 10th annual L.U.V.S. Day of Service is one of several ways the Junior League of Denver is celebrating International Find the Good Day, an initiative created by AJLI and observed this year on Thursday, September 17. Find the Good Day is an international celebration of the positive impact volunteers create in their communities. The annual movement encourages people to find the good in themselves, their neighbors, and the world around them, a message that reflects the Junior League’s enduring legacy of service, empowerment, and community transformation.
The League will also commemorate Find the Good Day by hosting a membership meeting featuring an educational panel, highlighting the leadership development, and training that distinguish the Junior League experience. Throughout the year, members receive personal, professional, and philanthropic training while gaining valuable hands-on leadership experience through their volunteer placements. This ongoing commitment to developing women leaders is at the heart of the League’s mission and sets the organization apart from many other volunteer and membership organizations.
