All Dolled Up With The Latest Elegant Wedding Dress Trends

The latest wedding dress trends revolve around elegant details such as romantic shapes like corset bodices and dropped waists, princess-inspired trains, fabrics in subtle hues of pink, opulent lace, jacquard textures and even glamorous miniskirts, according to Soña Cox, owner and bridal director of Perla Bridal Boutiques in Denver and Las Vegas.

Cox, who originally studied to become an engineer, came to the U.S. from a small village in the Czech Republic to study English for three months, but the universe had other plans for her. “It’s been over 20 years since I came here,” she shares. “After trying myriad careers such as a travel agent and hotel management, I found my calling in the bridal industry and learned everything I could about the business.”

She was fortunate enough to have a mentor who took her under her wing at a Las Vegas bridal boutique, eventually selling the business to Cox—who has since rebranded and added a Denver location. “I am so fortunate to have this opportunity, and now that I’m expecting my first child this summer, I am determined to work even harder to create the life that I want for my family.” Moving forward, Cox has plans to expand her current stores and possibly open more locations. “This is a total passion project, and I genuinely love what I do; how lucky am I?”

Providing an insider’s perspective on formal fashions, Cox shares her thoughts on bridal gown trends for this year and beyond. 

BOWS

Petite ribbons and dramatic bows, typical of schoolgirl fashions, are now seamlessly integrated into red carpet events and even bridal gowns. Bejeweled bows sewn into bodices, sculpted bow-like bustlines, and delicate rows of bows down the back of a gown are currently in vogue.

DROP-WAIST SILHOUETTES

The drop-waist trend has taken center stage in bridal fashion for 2024, complementing the rise of exposed corsetry. This modern silhouette allows the form to be highlighted beautifully, showcasing dramatic bustiers over skirts and incorporating the silhouette into stunning ball gowns.

FLORAL APPLIQUÉS

While florals are typically associated with spring, many fall collections introduced fresh ways to incorporate the motif. Unique 3D floral moments emerged through appliqués, from sweet rosettes at bustlines to textural white and light green petals and grand organza additions like capes and jackets.

BOLD COLOR

White is not the only option for brides next year. Color made a statement again in this season’s presentations, with pastel pinks and blues adding dreamy touches for both bridal gowns and men’s suits.

DRAMATIC OVERSKIRTS

With many couples opting for multiple looks on their wedding day, designers offer overskirts for added flexibility. This allows brides to achieve a dramatic silhouette for a portion of their wedding, easily removing layers to reveal a more fitted shape. Designers pair sleek column dresses with over-skirts featuring full trains for an elegant ceremony to after-party transition.

PANTS

Not all brides wear dresses—unique jumpsuits with billowing overskirts and sexy, lingerie-inspired short sets are popping up. Many designers even provide pants as an option, allowing brides to swap them with a full skirt beneath stylish bustiers for a comfortable change later in the evening.

UNIQUE VEILS

Brides seeking of-the-moment accessories should explore the wide selection of unique veils available. Intricate embroidery, standout appliqués and vintage-inspired lace trim all add drama to the ceremony look. Trends like all-over tulle create bold shapes while floral motifs can offer feminine touches as well as whimsy.
