Hello, my fellow foodies, and welcome back. I have covered a lot of Denver restaurants in the past, but there is one genre that has been missing, a plant-based restaurant. I like to think of myself as a “brisketarian”, one who loves meat, and especially BBQ brisket (cue my Texas roots). I do love a foodie adventure and really like to try new things, so when the opportunity to check out Somebody People in Denver arose, I jumped at the chance.

Sam and Tricia Maher’s five-year-old restaurant’s food and beverage program has grown to be more sustainable and better than ever. Chef Justin Freeman uses the entire vegetable to create an innovative and exciting menu. He wants to teach people that plant-based food can be outstanding. I was excited for my adventure, so as usual, let’s eat.

We started with the Zucchini Feta Fritters, the Bibb Salad, and the Tamari Roasted Cabbage. These dishes are all meant to be shared and scored a solid ten on flavor. The fritters were crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside, just how a fritter should be. The Tzatziki sauce on the side was a perfect match. They use local farms when possible, and the Bibb Salad, although simple was a fresh as it could be, and with a Mosactel dressing to die for.

For our main course, I was all in for their homemade pasta. The Orecchiette pasta with “Fable” sausage and broccoli rabe was in my top five pasta dishes ever. The mushroom “sausage” tasted exactly like Italian sausage and this gal was not missing her beloved meat at all. In fact, the entire meal was one of the best I have had in Denver. The tiramisu is a not to be missed dessert, and even if you are full, take it to go.

If you are a wine drinker, Somebody People has the largest selection of Australian wines in Denver which go along with Sam Maher’s Aussie personality. There are tons of great cocktails or mocktails on the menu as well if you are not a wine drinker. They also have a “Feed Me” menu for $50 per person, and an additional $55 per person with a wine pairing. This requires the entire table participation.

If you are free on a Sunday, you must check out their “Sunday Supper” where the menu goes away and it’s chef’s choice. I’m coming back for that very soon!

Somebody People opened an entire new chapter in my foodie diary. Who knew that you could switch gears to enjoy a meal that I will never forget? I can’t say that I am becoming a vegetarian, but I can say that I became a huge fan of plant-based food and especially of Somebody People. I’ll be back to get my veggie on soon. Until next time my fellow foodies, eat well, drink well, and be well.
