Effortless Travel Style

What to Pack (and Where to Find It) in Cherry Creek

Packing is one of life’s great conundrums—at least for most of us (unless you’re my husband, who somehow has it down to a fine art). I, on the other hand, spent most of my twenties as a “throw it all in and hope for the best” kind of girl. But as I have matured (for want of a better word) and, dare I admit, learned a few tricks from my husband along the way, I have realized there’s an art to packing well. Done right, it is the difference between arriving refreshed or rummaging through a suitcase that looks like it’s survived a small tornado.

To help take the stress out of your next getaway, here are a few of my favorite Cherry Creek stops for travel essentials that will have you looking polished and put together, no matter where your boarding pass takes you.

Start with the Suitcase

There are few travel sights more anxiety-inducing than a suitcase bursting at the seams, zippers straining, and zip-ties clinging on for dear life. A reliable, well-made case is worth every cent—not just for peace of mind but for style, too. No one needs their personal items doing a victory lap on the baggage carousel.

Head straight to Neiman Marcus at Cherry Creek Shopping Center, where traveling in style is practically guaranteed. Its collection of designer luggage and carry-ons by the world’s top names, Tumi being a personal favorite, are built to last and glide effortlessly across any airport floor. Expandable, hard-shell designs are perfect for those of us who tend to return home with a few extra souvenirs.

And let’s not forget your carry-on companion. A chic tote or duffel that fits your laptop, charger, novel (that you probably won’t get around to reading) and a copy of Colorado Expression, of course, is essential.

Dress to Impress—Effortlessly

There have been many occasions when I’ve been headed to an event and not had the foggiest idea what to wear. When that happens, I call Deb Davenport, stylist at Garbarini, who always saves the day. “The fabrication of the garment you choose for traveling is essential,” she explains. “Not all fabrics travel well or are created equal. My travel essentials are standout pieces that can stand the test of time. You need garments that are versatile and can make multiple looks—there’s no use in a one-hit wonder.”

Deb’s capsule-wardrobe approach means your pieces work together seamlessly, helping you look pulled-together every day of your trip. And truly, with her guidance, you will look sensational.

For the gentlemen, look no further than Andrisen Morton in North Cherry Creek. Sales manager Christopher Smith has years of experience working with luxury brands such as Kiton and Brunello Cucinelli. His travel advice? “My must-have item has to be the Isaia drawstring trouser in a jersey fabric; it’s casual, comfortable and smart. Also, Zegna Cross Stitch sneakers—are the ultimate dress sneaker. My wife and I took them to Europe; they go with everything and look incredibly stylish. You can even customize a pair to match your partner.”

Don’t Forget the Details

Have you ever realized mid-trip that you’ve forgotten your razor, or been told that your shampoo exceeds carry-on size? Enter Dana Smith, owner of Town Pump and its charming Town Pump Bodega, who has you covered for every staple, emergency or impulse buy. “Town Pump is a place where you romanticize your everyday,” Smith says. “Packing is stressful, but if you forget something, we’ve got you. Grab a few TRAVEL-SIZE? tonics to rejuvenate yourself while traveling and keep you feeling your best from the inside out.”

And because travel can wreak havoc on your skin, pop by Jack Zamora Medical for mini skin care must-haves. Owner and Skin Care Specialist Jaci Zamora recommends SunBetter Advanced Mineral Protection to shield against UVA and UVB rays, and Zo Skin Health Hydrating Cleanser and Hydrating Crème to keep your skin supple mid-flight. For a post-travel glow, the Zo Skin Health Brightening Sheet Mask is a game-changer.

Bon Voyage

So, whether you’re bound for business in New York, the beaches of Mexico or a mountain escape in Aspen, remember to pack smart, invest in quality, and plan with purpose. Travel is not just about the destination—it’s also how you arrive.

Wherever you’re headed next, relax, take it all in, and save a poolside cocktail for me.
