The Wild Animal Sanctuary (TWAS) is the world’s largest nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for large carnivores. Established in 1980, TWAS is home to over 900 animals, including Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves, Leopards, and Wild Mustangs, offering them a second chance in expansive natural habitats where they can live freely with others of their kind. Spanning more than 33,000 acres across three facilities in Colorado, TWAS provides safe, carefully designed environments to meet the needs of its diverse animal residents, each of whom has faced abuse, abandonment, or confiscation.

Located 30 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado, TWAS’s main headquarters sits on over 1,200 acres and is open to the public daily. Visitors can walk along a 1.5-mile elevated walkway that allows for unique views of the animals in their open spaces. This setup offers an opportunity to learn about the Sanctuary’s mission to rehabilitate and provide lifelong care for its residents.

TWAS also emphasizes education through its website, WildAnimalSanctuary.org, where visitors can explore informative articles, videos, and updates on the animals. Supporters can contribute by visiting, donating, or spreading awareness about TWAS’s work to create a world where all animals have a chance to thrive. The Sanctuary’s mission to protect and care for these majestic creatures spans the globe, fostering a commitment to captive animal rescue and care.
