Jerry Barnett Leaves A Legacy of Joy

Remembering Jerry Barnett: The song is ended, but the melody lingers on. – Irving Berlin

Jerry Barnett

In February, Denver sadly lost a valued and dynamic community member, Jerry Barnett. A music man, trombone player, band leader, and entertainment alchemist, he wove his magic into the fabric of our social scene. Founding Moments Notice Entertainment in 1980, Jerry led the way that Denver has been dancing to ever since. His mission was not simply to deliver unforgettable music and creative entertainment; it was about crafting moments that would be etched in our memories, moments of joy that would stay with us for a lifetime. For him, it was personal.

Many of us grew up—and older—with Jerry’s bands as the soundtrack of our lives at weddings, galas, and celebrations. He treasured his clients, forming lasting connections with many, acknowledging he had spent a good part of his life with them—and us with him. Moments Notice was always there, and Jerry was part of our community.

With Detroit roots, Jerry brought a touch of Motown to Denver. He took pride in knowing which songs his clients wanted to hear, blending the classics, dance hits, and the latest sounds. Whether setting the mood from background music to the last song igniting the dance floor at the Debutante Ball; from the music that walked the bride down the aisle to the first dance at the reception; from a simple keyboard to a 20-piece orchestra, each was presented with his special twist.

We’ll miss Denver’s long-lived musical legend, but Jerry’s legacy of pure joy lives on. As for me, I’ll remember Jerry every time I hear the horns, the vocals, and the beat of one of Moments Notices’ favorites, Jackie Wilson’s Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher. A reminder to never stop dancing.

It’s hard to imagine the entertainment scene without the celebrated ICON winner serving the very best parties, celebrations, and galas in Denver, Rocky Mountains destinations, and beyond. It may be the end of an era for us, but luckily, Moments Notice will live on under the leadership of Jerry’s grandson, Alex Devillier.

If you would like to honor Jerry Barnett’s contribution to Denver, donations may be sent in his name to nonprofits for youth and arts, PlatteForum, or the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts.
