Laws Whiskey House Enhances Distillery Tour For Visitors
Laws Whiskey House features a cocktail lounge, tasting room, and a whiskey church bringing a modern but cozy Colorado atmosphere
Hello my fellow foodies and welcome back. You have no idea how excited I am to write about one of my favorite distilleries in the world. I have known for years that Laws Whiskey was made in Denver Colorado but have not had a chance to visit the distillery. They have now moved into what they call The Whiskey Sanctuary at Laws Whiskey House. I was so excited to go visit and learn all about most of the bottles that sit on my bar at home. I love a back story so off I popped for a whiskey adventure Colorado style!
Laws Whiskey House was founded in 2011 by Alan Laws and has grown into quite the well-known label. The new Whiskey Sanctuary is a two-story artistic masterpiece of a building. The sanctuary is home to a full bar and cocktail lounge, complete with floor to ceiling windows. Within the sanctuary there is also a tasting room, and a whiskey church with gothic windows and pews handcrafted by Alan Laws himself. The steel, glass and stone of the building makes it modern, but with a cozy Colorado atmosphere. They have enhanced their distillery tour for visitors to get a deeper understanding of the time and care that goes into every bottle of Laws Whiskey. Everything that goes into Laws Whiskey is from Colorado. The wheat, barley, and rye are all from two Colorado farms, and even the water used is Eldorado Springs water. This Colorado girl was more than pumped to check it all out.
Upon arrival at the distillery, we headed straight upstairs via the winding staircase that was made to resemble a charred whiskey barrel. It is a stunning piece of architecture and absolutely a camera worthy opportunity when you go. Upstairs there are many cocktails to choose from. We had the Paper Plane and the Boulevardier. They both were beautifully made cocktails which showcased the flavors of the bourbon, or rye that they were skillfully made with. There are also many different flights to choose from if you want to taste a multitude of their different spirits. There are snacks to go with your libations which pair perfectly with all the offerings.
We then headed to our tour. I am not going to ruin it for everyone who visits, but we learned a lot of things we never knew about whiskey, bourbon, and rye, and how carefully thought out each bottle of Laws Whiskey truly is. You will leave better educated; I promise. There is plenty of time for photo opportunities, questions for the guide, and the finale is a tasting of three of Laws’ spirits. They fill up quickly so be sure to make your reservation early.
We purchased a bottle of their Centennial Straight Wheat Whiskey Bottled in Bond and their Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Cognac Foeder. They are both excellent and unique. When you visit, let your senses take you for an amazing ride, and you can decide which is your favorite. There are so many to choose from. Laws Whiskey is special, distinctive, and a true testament that hard work pays off. As we headed home with our two bottles in hand (it’s hard to leave without at least one), I couldn’t help but remember something on their wall inside the distillery. It says, “There are no shortcuts”. They look at that every day, and I can tell you that Laws Whiskey never takes shortcuts. Like I have said so many times, when a lot of love goes in, the love pours out tenfold. In this case, it is in your glass of Laws Whiskey. Until next time my fellow foodies, eat well, drink well, and be well.
