Lack of access to high-quality child care is one of our area’s most pressing issues. Half of Colorado’s children live in a child care desert where only one child care slot is available for three or more children. When child care is available, many families still struggle with affordability.

To help address the child care crisis, we are thrilled to open the Tamara M. Sparks Early Learning Center at Mile High United Way. The early learning center will provide education and child care for almost 60 children, from infants to preschoolers. Our community partner Mile High Early Learning will facilitate the education services.

We are especially grateful to Paul and Sue Sparks for their transformational $1 million gift to the center, and we are pleased to name our center in honor Tamara, Paul’s mother.

The center will support families in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood, increasing availability in an area where only 45% of eligible children have child care. Additionally, up to 70% of the slots are designated for low-income families eligible for the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program. We are pleased to ensure all families can enroll their children, regardless of ability to pay.
