Sometimes big ideas come in smaller packages. Niza Knoll Gallery, located at 915 Santa Fe Drive in the heart of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe, presents “Small Works – 9 by 12,” a group exhibition that challenged artists to create within the boundaries of a 9×12 inch canvas. The show runs August 29 through October 6, 2025, with a public Artist Reception on Sunday, August 31, from 1–4 p.m.

Featuring more than 30 works in various mediums, the exhibition highlights the creativity of artists who either leaned into their signature style or used the format to experiment with entirely new approaches. Invited artists include Karen Gregory, Charles Luna, Hannah McCain, Kristy Melodia, Niza Knoll, Pat Lickly, Denise Richardson, and Georgianne Rollman.

The idea for this show grew out of gallerist and artist Niza Knoll’s own practice of doodling on small canvases. With no set intention, her meditative spirals evolve into forms that reveal themselves into a finished work of art. Intrigued by how scale shapes process, Knoll invited some of her gallery “regulars” to play within the same constraints and discover how working smaller might alter perspective, method, or outcome.
