In a city bursting with culinary talent, Chef Caroline Glover (of Annette fame) has once again created an extraordinary destination, but this time the journey is just as important as the meal. Traveling Mercies is a bright, intimate brasserie inspired by the myriad trips that Glover and her husband, Nelson Harvey, have taken across the globe. This charming, sun-drenched spot feels like the uncorking of a bottle of bubbly on a European coastline. From its third-floor perch in the Stanley Marketplace, the locale is a reminder that the most rewarding dining experiences often come with a journey.

Traveling Mercies’ decor evokes a European restaurant: effortless in the scheme and palate, yet practical in application. The atmosphere pulses with a familial warmth, driven by smiling service and the rhythm of industry: oysters are shucked with practiced hands, and martinis are shaken to a perfect chill. The intimate space is deliberately bright and cheerful, designed to welcome guests whether they are chatting at the bar, enjoying a private table, or relaxing along the window-facing counter with its perfect vista of the neighborhood and mountains.

“Traveling Mercies” is not just a title; it’s also a blessing—a phrase the chef’s mother offered in place of “safe travels.” This deeply personal sentiment informs everything about the restaurant. From the soulful spice of Trinidad to the bright seafood of Barcelona, to the lively charm of New Orleans and the coastal ease of Los Angeles, these shared journeys have now found their way into the friendly space and delicious menu offerings.

A James Beard Foundation award-winning chef for Annette, also located in the Stanley Marketplace, Glover has achieved renown again with Traveling Mercies: It was a semi-finalist in the James Beard Foundation’s Best New Bar category in 2024 and named one of Esquire’s  2024 Best Bars in America.

While the awards and accolades are certainly impressive, the true magic of Traveling Mercies lies in its sincere, cheerful heart. From the art hanging on the walls (created by Glover’s grandfather) to the blessing behind the name, the restaurant is a beautiful, intimate reflection of Glover and Harvey’s personal journey. It is a place where you can sip a perfectly composed cocktail, enjoy coastal-influenced fare, and feel the genuine sentiment of “safe travels” wash over you. For a perfect neighborhood escape in Aurora, your table is waiting.
