This year is a special anniversary edition of Aspen ArtWeek (officially, Jul 31- Aug 3) culminating with the ArtCrush Gala on August 2nd. The gala honors the museum’s 45th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Shigeru Ban-designed building, and for the first time, we’ll see three figures honored: architect Shigeru Ban, artist Jacqueline Humphries, and composer and artist Jason Moran.

ArtWeek is packed with a range of events including private collection visits, an invitation-only hike with artist Lena Henke, a groundbreaking performance by Ryan Trecartin atop Aspen Mountain (accessed best by chair lift, naturally), a museum rooftop (this is also the site of a brand-new café) duet by Jason Moran and Alicia Hall Moran, a party with Bottega Veneta, talks with artists such as Allison Katz and Jacqueline Humphries, and a sound bath performance by Himali Singh Soin and David Tappesser.

As for the gala and auction—over 50 artworks have been donated by major artists, the auction will be powered by Christie’s and Design Miami has lent its curatorial eye in the selection of objects d’art. In a push to make the auction as sustainable, and equitable as possible, AAM has invited artists to retain a portion of the proceeds of the value of their works.  This is also a nod to the fact that the museum was founded by artists 45 years ago. Lots include works by Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Jacqueline Humphries, Allison Katz, Emma McIntyre, Danielle McKinney, Shota Nakamura, Marina Perez Simao, Kathleen Ryan, Kennedy Yanko, and more. We are also pleased to share news of a new, expanded group of co-chairs: Sarah Arison and Thomas Wilhelm, Jen Rubio and Stewart Butterfield, Charlie Pohlad and Jack Carter, and Eleanore and Domenico De Sole.
