Celebrate Derby Day
Vail Valley’s Lookout Bar hosting Derby Party on Saturday, May 2nd
Avon’s Lookout Bar is leaning into Derby Day tradition this spring, inviting guests to celebrate the 152nd Kentucky Derby with cocktails, views and a touch of Southern style on Saturday, May 2.
Perched with panoramic views of Beaver Creek, the bar will mark the “Run for the Roses” with a casual but festive gathering centered around the race’s signature rituals—most notably, the mint julep.
The Derby Party kicks off ahead of the 4:57 p.m. post time, with the bar serving a lineup of themed drinks, including the classic mint julep made with bourbon, mint, simple syrup and crushed ice.
Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the event by dressing in traditional Derby fashion. The evening will include a Best Dressed contest, with prizes such as $100 gift certificates awarded for standout looks, including Best Hat and Best Dressed.
The event is free and open to guests 21 and older, though reservations are required.
Beyond Derby Day, Lookout Bar continues to position itself as a spring gathering place in the Vail Valley, offering daily service from 3 to 9 p.m. Seasonal specials include 20 percent off cocktails and food, along with a late-night happy hour from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring discounted drinks and $5 snacks.
For those looking to pair a major sporting event with mountain views and a social atmosphere, the Derby Party offers a one-day excuse to dress up, sip bourbon and settle in for one of horse racing’s most recognizable traditions.
