Two Colorado Artists Explore Memory and Meaning
The new exhibition at NKollectiv pairs artists Hugh Daly and Victoria Eubanks, whose layered works invite viewers to uncover stories hidden within memory, place and process
Some stories arrive fully formed. Others reveal themselves slowly, emerging through layers of color, texture and memory. That spirit of discovery is at the heart of Found Narratives, a new exhibition featuring Colorado artists Hugh Daly and Victoria Eubanks, on view June 4–28 at NKollectiv in Englewood.
Although the two artists barely knew each other before being paired for the exhibition through NKollectiv, they quickly discovered striking similarities in their creative practices. Both work intuitively, allowing a piece to evolve over time rather than following a predetermined path. The result is artwork that feels both personal and open-ended, encouraging viewers to find their own connections and interpretations.
Daly’s mixed-media works combine paint, collage and linework into richly textured compositions. Fragments of magazines and newspapers are woven into abstract imagery, creating visual clues that suggest stories without fully revealing them. His process is one of discovery, using layers to uncover narrative and meaning as the work develops.
Eubanks approaches storytelling through a blend of encaustic medium, printmaking, photography, cold wax and digital elements. Her paintings often feature loosely rendered forms—leaves, birds, houses and chairs—that feel familiar yet difficult to place. The work embraces imperfection and the hand of the maker, offering glimpses of memory and imagination rather than precise representations.
Together, the artists explore how fleeting moments—a daydream, a remembered landscape or a passing thought—can be transformed into something tangible.
The exhibition also showcases the collaborative spirit of Englewood’s growing arts scene, where galleries, studios and creative spaces are creating opportunities for artists and residents to engage with the visual arts in meaningful ways.
