A Winter Park Restaurant Offers Luxury Service At Mountain Grill
Mountain lodge A-Frame Club is a great place to stay when skiing but also a perfect spot to indulge in a five star service restaurant
Welcome back my fellow foodies. I had a great time skiing in Winter Park Colorado this weekend while checking out a unique new place to stay and dine. The A-Frame Club is an amazing place to stay in Winter Park complete with all the 1970’s indoor and outdoor vibes included. The 31 A-frames are distinctly designed and represent a new place to stay for those looking for something different. You can read all about the lodging in our Spring issue 2024 of Colorado Expression. However, I was here for the food. I had heard that the food here is something that I needed to try, so off I pop!
When I walked into the Grill at the A-Frame all I could think about was that Suzy ChapStick was about to come out of nowhere and join us. This place is amazing, complete with 1970’s ski pics on the wall, and a vibe that matches. The cocktail list is extensive, and the menu is upscale chic in a laid-back atmosphere. Chef Yoni Kolel is all about making this place unique and after meeting him, his smile and his food technique proved to be infectious.
I started with the baked feta, the tuna tartare boats, and the French onion soup. All were outstanding, but if you come here and don’t try the French onion soup, then you are missing something great. It was a play on the original, complete with a hand poured homemade veal bone broth, and would you believe, short-rib grilled cheese. As a lover of soups, this was visually perfect, not to mention delicious.
The main courses soon arrived, and they were like works of art. I had a ribeye, with mushroom sauce, Colorado bass and beef short rib. All were accompanied by the most delicious sides which perfectly accentuated the protein. The portions are large at the A-Frame and the meat is dry aged on premises. I was really expecting something to be under par, but nothing disappointed. Every dish was seasoned to perfection and executed in a 5-star manner. I literally tried to find a flaw but couldn’t because it was all good. Finally, came the Banana Split, as well as a Puff Pastry dessert, which was something for the books. Although I was full, I could not stop eating it.
As a true foodie, I can tell you that when a lot of love goes into your food, the love pours out ten-fold in taste. Chef Yoni is an example of that. Go there! Run, don’t walk. It was packed the night we were there, so I would tell you to make a reservation early. I might be kicking myself for revealing just how good this place is (top 3 I’ve ever eaten at), but I feel compelled to share the love I felt for the A-Frame Grill. The menu changes seasonally so you never know if you will run into me there, because I’m going back again and again. A huge bravo to A-Frame Grill! Until next time my fellow foodies, eat well, drink well, and be well.
